Saga Collectif (2019)
A re-imaging of Euripides’ play, centering the recognition scene between long lost siblings Iphigenia and Orestes. A Saga Collectif commission by Ho Ka Kei (Jeff Ho) that both admires and interrogates the original piece, exploding open its colonial implications when performed on this land we call Canada.
Nominated for seven 2019 Dora Mavor Moore Awards in the Independent Division, including Outstanding Production and Direction, winner of the 2018-2019 Outstanding New Canadian Play Award from the Toronto Critics Circle, and one of Now Magazine’s Top Ten Theatre Productions of 2019.
Review: “Under Jonathan Seinen’s thoughtful direction, the production that results feels like simultaneous exploration and celebration of the relevance that they have discovered in the material.”
Review: “Much of the production’s electricity can be attributed to the synergy between playwright Ho and director Jonathan Seinen.” “It’s a haunting finale that Seinen boldly pushes to its limit.”
